Pecan Lodge- Deep Ellum

On our first day in Dallas we decided that it was critical to find some amazing barbecue. 

Now if you know anything about Texas it’s that there is no shortage of BBQ joints! Just take a look at the map below… so how do you choose?

Well my husband Josh had been to Pecan Lodge a few years back and it apparently made quite an impression! He insisted that we go there for our first Texas BBQ experience.

I decided to look it up and see for myself, finding that many were in agreement and that Pecan Lodge was widely recognized over the years as some of the best BBQ in Texas.

Okay, I’m convinced.

Josh’s memory (and a quick google search) did not fail us. We arrived in Deep Ellum and I instantly felt the vibrancy and excitement of the neighborhood complimented by the rich smoky smell of BBQ.

The restaurant was only offering take-out due to Covid-19, therefore I had to order from the window in the courtyard area. I proceeded to wait in the 100 degree Texas heat.. remember, I’m new here! Originally hailing from the Pacific Northwest, I’m a big wimp when it comes to hot weather!

 

Boy, was it worth it! See for yourself... here's what we ordered:

The Hot Mess, a massive, salt crusted sweet potato stuffed with brisket, chipotle crema and topped with green onions and cheese. (This thing was big enough for 3 people but good enough that you don’t want to share.)

Mac N Cheese. This Mac had little bits of charred meat (bacon?) and was so creamy and delicious.

We will definitely go back to Pecan Lodge, hopefully next time for the full experience of dining in at this quirky neighborhood spot.

 

My favorite things about Pecan Lodge :

~ It’s family owned

~ They make everything from scratch

~ They serve SWEET POTATOES.
